Job description

The incumbent is responsible for promoting and maintaining clinical standards in the intensive care unit, ensuring quality patient care, strategic, cost-effective service management, and contributing to the overall management of the unit.

Develop and maintain professional relationships and develop a team approach to patient and family care.
Provide guidance and direction to all staff in providing quality care within the department.
Demonstrate proficiency in using department specific technical equipment.
Recognize and respond to patient needs in a caring and compassionate manner.
Use appropriate problem-solving techniques, identify multiple alternative solutions, and seek appropriate advice.
Proactively protect the health and safety of patients, staff and others.
Monitor and ensure infection control standards are maintained.
Ensure appropriate and timely initiation and management of issues affecting departmental services.
Participate in the development of professional protocols in accordance with guidelines.
Lead and encourage continuous quality improvement through continuous monitoring.
Proactively manage clinical risk, report incidents to the Chief Nursing Officer and contribute to quality and risk planning.
Ensure efficient delivery of competent, compassionate and effective patient care by monitoring and evaluating patient care processes.
Always provide clear, concise and accurate documentation.
Actively monitor and ensure timely flow of patients from admission to transfer or discharge.
Act as an effective role model by demonstrating a high level of clinical expertise and providing direct clinical care as needed.
Develop and maintain basic communication between the department and other departments.
Other duties as assigned by management.

Job requirements

Degree in Nursing from a Nigerian University or a certificate as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse from a recognized Nigerian Institution of Nursing
Minimum of 7 years of work experience as a Nurse / ICU Administrator
Good understanding of infection control procedures.
