Position: Assistant Technician, Nurse

Project description:

Northeast Nigeria is currently facing a growing humanitarian crisis with large numbers of displaced people in need of emergency assistance. These migrants live among agricultural communities and lack access to food and resources, leading to malnutrition and food insecurity. FHI 360 has been working in Nigeria for over 30 years and is currently expanding its response to the migrant crisis in Borno State.

FHI 360 is expanding its expertise in responding to this humanitarian crisis through WASH, Health and Safety interventions.

main mission:

Provide patient care, treatment, and surveillance in accordance with physician orders, service protocols, and universal hygiene standards/precautions to ensure quality and continuity of care for the target population.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Works as part of a multidisciplinary staff team to provide high quality patient care for vulnerable populations.

Ensure that patients are admitted and housed properly, and that assistance is provided to those with a lack of autonomy, especially with regard to food, personal hygiene, mobility and comfort.

For ED and OPD nurses, triage patients in waiting areas, wards or emergency situations, identify priority of acute/emergency cases, administer first aid and refer to physicians as needed.

Knowledge, promotion, implementation and enforcement of universal hygiene standards/reserves.

Arrange and administer care and treatment according to medical prescriptions, assist in consultations, daily procedures and other medical procedures.

Participate in patient (and family) health education as needed.

Admit, monitor, and track patients (ie, assess health progress and identify abnormalities or damage.

Implement and monitor administrative and documentation processes (complete patient files, forms, intake, statistics, registration, health files, etc.).

Collaborate with community health extension workers and other RN/RM volunteers working in your department, including capacity building

Comply with the appropriate code of conduct and ethics

Participate in outreach and community health programs (as needed)

Participate in continuing professional development (ie training, mentoring)

Plan patient care in conjunction with site physicians.

Direct care, i.e. administration of IV medication, dressing, clinical observation, etc.

Maintain reusable equipment through proper cleaning and sterilization.

Maintain adequate and accurate records of patient care, including items and equipment used (if applicable);

Provide quality nursing health services at all project sites.

Work with technical support and M&E teams to collect relevant baseline data throughout the project life cycle

Prepare and submit periodic reports

Ensure that post-infection prevention and control measures are followed at all times.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills and Attributes:

Ability and willingness to stay in LGA required.

Willingness and ability to be flexible and flexible when faced with difficult and frustrating work situations such as walking long distances to distribution locations.

Good spoken and written Local and English.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Previous experience working in a clinical setting is an asset.

Ability to prepare weekly and monthly program reports.

Be flexible and adapt to daily operations

Skills and Requirements:

BSc Nursing, Public Health or related field with minimum 3 years work experience.

Registered Nurse/Midwife with additional Public Health or closely related certification from a government recognized institution and 4 or more years of work experience.

A valid practice license is required.

Familiarity with the Nigerian public sector health system, community organizations and NGOs is highly desirable.

Previous experience working in a humanitarian crisis is highly desired.

Must have completed NYSC or have NYSC clearance letter.
